MESSAGE FROM COMMANDER DEFENCE FORCE

COMMODORE Floyd Moxey

The Bahamas Maritime and Military Academy

The strategic vision for The Bahamas Maritime and Military Academy is that the institution of learning offers world class professional and military education along with academic degrees to serving members, veterans and retirees, law enforcement agency partners, regional, hemispheric and international partner nations in the spirit of security cooperation with emphasis on maritime safety, security and prosperity for all stakeholders.  Moreover, our academy will stand as a beacon of excellence in professional maritime and military education and training lead by a team of educators and distinguished service personnel.

Additionally, we envision a Maritime and Military Academy that is at the forefront of innovation and technology in professional maritime education and training delivery through investments  in state-of-the-art simulators, training vessels, and cutting-edge equipment that will provide our students with the most realistic and immersive learning experiences possible. By doing so, we will ensure that our graduates are not only well-versed in traditional maritime and military practices but are also prepared to tackle the challenges of a rapidly evolving maritime security environment which has become increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous.

Further, it is our hope to foster a culture of leadership, excellence and service within our academy. Our students should not only excel in their academic and technical pursuits but should also embody the values of honor, integrity, and discipline. Similarly, we envision a curriculum that emphasizes leadership development, teamwork, and ethical decision-making, thus preparing our graduates to become not just capable mariners but also responsible leaders in the maritime community in particular and society in general.

Likewise, we commit to strengthening our partnerships with industry leaders, government agencies, quasi-government agencies, non-government organizations, and national law enforcement agencies, regional, hemispheric and international maritime and military organizations. By forging strong connections with these stakeholders, we can provide our students with valuable networking opportunities, internships, and real-world experiences that will enhance their education, career prospects and life experiences.

In the same way, we see our Maritime and Military Academy as a global leader in maritime research and innovation. Our goal is to establish multiple Centers of Excellences focused on key maritime issues such as environmental sustainability, maritime security, and emerging technologies. By encouraging faculty and student involvement in research, we would be able to contribute to the advancement of existing body of knowledge and best practices in the maritime and military domains.

Ultimately, our vision and hope for the Military and Maritime Academy revolve around one central theme: to produce outstanding maritime and military professionals who are not only technically proficient but also possess the leadership, adaptability, and global perspective necessary to excel in the maritime industry of the 21st century. Through dedication, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, we are confident that our strategic vision will be realized as the institution continue to transform with significant educational impacts whereby the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, National Law Enforcement Agencies, Civil Society; Regional, Hemispheric and International Publics are enhanced.
